This Friday outdoors — Mood's Covered Bridge, Perkasie

Four sessions into Spring Plein Air and this Friday we're at a new location.

Hello Reader,

Mood's Covered Bridge Park in Perkasie. There's a parking lot, the essentials are covered, multiple good painting views right from where you park, and a short walk to a river overlook that's worth the extra few minutes. Good subject matter all around — the bridge, water, tree canopy. And yes, there's a Dunkin' Donuts nearby if you need to start the morning right.

We're continuing the color work from the last two sessions. We've been working on posterization studies — simplifying what's in front of you into committed color masses rather than trying to match every variation you see. This week the focus is specifically on greens. Spring means the landscape is dominated by green, and green is more complex than it looks. Warm yellow-greens in sun, cool blue-greens in shadow, olive in the older foliage — these are different colors and they have to read as different on your painting.

You don't need to have been to previous sessions. We welcome new comers!

Friday May 1st, 9am–noon. $47 drop-in or $300 for all 7 sessions.

This Friday: the problem with green Hello Reader, Spring is the hardest season to paint outdoors. Not because it's cold or the light is bad — because everything is green, and green is more complicated than it looks. We're three sessions into Spring Plein Air, and this Friday we're staying with the posterization approach we introduced last week — simplifying what's in front of you into clear committed color masses — with a specific focus on reading and mixing the greens. Here's the thing about...
